Kurasu Bangkok: A Quiet Taste of Kyoto in Thonglor
There is something refreshing about stepping away from Bangkok’s energy and finding a café that feels calm, simple and unhurried. That was my experience at Kurasu Bangkok Stand in Thonglor.
Kurasu comes from Kyoto, and that Japanese influence is immediately noticeable. The space is minimalist and understated, with warm timber, clean lines and a focus on the coffee rather than elaborate decoration. It feels less like a café designed for Instagram and more like a place where the drink itself takes centre stage.
What I particularly enjoyed was the coffee. Kurasu has a strong specialty-coffee focus, with espresso-based drinks as well as rotating single-origin filter options. The Bangkok Blend is a good introduction, offering a smooth profile with gentle caramel and berry notes.
For something a little different, the matcha drinks are also worth exploring. The café has developed a following for its coffee-and-matcha combinations, including its popular Dirty Matcha.
And then there is the food. The Anko Toast—thick, fluffy toast with butter and sweet red-bean paste—is simple but comforting, and pairs naturally with a cup of Japanese-style coffee.
What I liked most about Kurasu, though, was the atmosphere. It is not a huge café, and the Thonglor Stand is particularly compact, making it better suited to a quick coffee stop than a long afternoon of working.
For me, that is part of its charm. Kurasu does not try to be everything. It keeps things focused: good coffee, thoughtful preparation and a quiet Japanese aesthetic in the middle of lively Bangkok.
If you are exploring Thonglor and looking for a coffee break with a distinctly Kyoto-inspired character, Kurasu is a place worth slowing down for—even if only for one carefully brewed cup.
